General Manager, Northern Railway exhorted Railway staff to express their solidarity and dynamism through team spirit to propel the zone to achieve still greater heights in the year ahead..

    To commemorate the running of the first train in the country between Boribander and Thane, Indian Railways celebrates the Railway Week every year. In this dedicatory spirit, Northern Railway celebrated its 60th Railway Week from 10th April to 16th April 2015. Culminating the celebrations, Northern Railway organized the Valedictory ceremony at Baroda House, New Delhi today on 17th April 2015. General Manager, Northern Railway A. K. Puthia presided over the ceremony. Additional General Manager S. K. Pathak all the Principal Heads of the various Departments, other senior Railway Officials and Railway employees of Northern Railway, Members of Unions Associations & Federations, President, Northern Railway Women Welfare Organization (NRWWO) Smt. Madhuri Puthia and other Members of NRWWO were also present on the occasion.

    Speaking on the occasion, the General Manager lauded the various achievements of the zone in core functional areas. Northern Railway marked a very eventful year 2014-15. Originating Earnings in freight segment fetched revenue of Rs. 7591.29 crores upto Feb 2015, recording 14.7% increase over the corresponding period the previous financial year. Northern Railway has registered revenue loading of 54.90 Million Tonnes during FY 2014-15 as against 53.37 Million Tonnes registered for the corresponding period during the previous year marking an increase of 2.87%. The passenger segment on originating basis, registered a significant earning of Rs.7125.11 crore upto February 2015 recording a noteworthy increase of 13.09% over the corresponding period the previous year.

    One of the crowning achievements of the zone was the Commissioning of the 25.6 km. long Udhampur - Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Rail Line on 4th July 2014. 6 DEMU trains are now servicing to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. Other notable achievements include the commissioning of electrification of the Pathankot-Jammu Tawi(100.6 Route km) and Khurja-Meerut City( 87.4 Route km) sections and completion of Phase-I of the new electric loco shed at Khan Alampura to cater to expansion of electrification.

    The year 2014-15 marked another significant chapter in the history of Northern Railway in providing a better logistic interface and in extending the best possible facilities to rail passengers. New facilities in train enquiry through Mobile Applications, New Generation E-Ticketing system, Cash on Delivery (CoD) schemes, Go-India Smart Cards, E-Catering scheme etc have lent greater ease in ticket-purchase. Online rail bookings have proliferated marking one of the most successful stories in e-governance. Wake up alert and Destination alert calls have been launched as pilot initiatives on Voice-Call 139. For greater passenger facility, Short-Code Passenger Complaint No. 138 & Security Helpline Short-Code No. 182 has been launched.

    The ceremony started with felicitation of 200 railway employees (Officers & Staff) for their meritorious services by Shri Puthia, General Manager, Northern Railway. 5 group awards and 43 shields were presented by General Manager, based on performance-oriented parameters. Delhi Division bagged the General Manager’s Excellence Shield while Ambala secured Best Division Shield for overall performance.

    During Railway Week function award ceremony at Guwahati, Assam, Northern Railway bagged the Security Shield, Level Crossing & Road Over/Under Bridge Safety Works Shield exclusively and Comprehensive Health Care Shield jointly with Eastern and Southern Railways.
